My Local Dingbat Sheriff

So this story made NATIONAL news before any of the locals picked it up and I have no idea why. Even now some of our local channels and newspapers have refused to run the story. Why are they protecting this guy from bad press when he deserves it?

Sheriff David Crenshaw of Anderson County, South Carolina recently realized he had been driving on an expired license. It only expired 14 MONTHS ago!

When he was interviewed he said he didn't know it had expired and he guesses that the DMV quit sending out notices. Well that's a lie. They send them, I certainly got mine and renewed easily by mail. I guess the sheriff really doesn't check his mail. For him to say they just don't send notices anymore though, that's just irresponsible. He's a liar and I have absolutely no respect for him after this.

He says he's human. Well, ok, I guess. People do make mistakes. But when you make a mistake OWN UP TO IT! Don't blame it on the DMV not sending you a notice. They DID send you a notice, you ignored it for whatever reason. Don't lie to everyone and say they don't send out notices because they most certainly DO.

Renewal is a very simple process when you do it on time. You sign on the dotted line and pay the fee and there you go. But if your license has been expired for more than a year, as was the case for Crenshaw, you have to take the driving test again. Well, Crenshaw failed the driving test on his first try. The reason? He says he did his three point turn backwards. I'm trying to picture that in my mind but I just have no idea how it's possible to do it backwards. Did he pull forward across the road, then back up and swing it around? Eh…

Anyway, that's our local police. Since my town has no police department of it's own since they closed it last year this is the man that protects my saftey. I'll be adding some extra deadbolts to my security scheme I think.

14 months? I thought it was bad that my license was expired for 3 months, and I’m not even a public official!

  3. that is just plain odd.

Guess what? No one cares. It’s an expired license, his driving was just fine – isn’t that the point of having a license in the first place, to prove driving ability? It’s not like he ran over and killed someone.
