Rubber Ducks Invade England
Posted by admin on July 14, 2007 · 9 Comments
During a storm in 1992 a container of 29,000 rubber ducks on their way from Hong Kong to Washington fell of a ship and have been swarming around in the ocean ever since. They are now beginning to invade the shores of England.
A retired teacher in England has found one of the ducks (believed to be from the 1992 spill) on the beach covered with brown algae and barnacles. Looks like it had a little bite taken out of it's headd too. Poor ducky!
Previously some of the rubber duckies had shown up in Indonesia, Australia and South America. Scientists who have been watching them over the years to track ocean currents said they expected them in England at any time.
The ducks who have been swimming for 15 years and 17,000 miles have become a collector's item and sell for about $500 on Ebay.

what a great story! just dugg and stumbled it…
where do you find this stuff?
Thanks Steve
I’m a news junkie so stuff comes from absolutely all over!
ahh this is unbelievable i dont know where u get all this bizarre news but i love it!!!
Amazing … you mean they float around the world for 17 years! BTW, they look exactly like the rubber ducklings we use over here in Singapore during the adopt a duckling charity event some time ago.
Aren’t they cute? I can’t believe they’ve been floating around out there for 17 years.. kind of a shame to see them wash up on the beach! I imagine there’s still bunches of them out there though.
LOL, this is kinda funny. But hey, it sells $500 in eBay!
Hope that one will swim to me.
Eh, seeing all these plastic duckling remind me of New Police Story, starring by Jackie Chan, lolz.
I’d be laughing all the way to the bank if I found one
We wrote an article about this from a ship captain’s perspective. You can read it here:
