Man Arrested For DWB – Driving While Blind!

In Estonia, a man was seen driving erratically and so the police pulled him over, thinking it would be a DUI arrest. They took him down to the station where they tried to do a breathalyzer test. Well, the man kept missing the breathalyzer machine with his mouth and the cops finally figured out that he wasn't drunk at all – he is blind!
The 20 year old man was driving with the help of his 16 year old passenger, who obviously wasn't helping enough. The passenger was apparently sitting in the passenger seat saying.. "Yeah, a little to the left.. ok.. too far.. now right.. keep it straight.. " Hmmm…
I wonder why the 16 year old would take their lives into their own hands in that way. Did they both have a death wish? I wonder what the driving age is in Estonia, because in most of the United States you are old enough to learn to drive at 16. And I would have thought riding with a 16 year old novice driver, as hair raising as that can be, would be a safer alternative than driving while blind!

I think sixteen is too young to be driving a car. Eighteen is a more sensible age
since the person is that much more
mature.
Did you see the movie, “Scent of a
Woman?” I adore that movie despite the
dangerous car driving scene.
I never saw “Scent of a Woman”, I always wanted to, but never got around to it.
I once taught a sixteen year old girl to drive and it was one of the scariest times of my life. Sixteen is probably too young, but still in most states I believe that is still the age at which they can get a learner’s permit – and scare the life out of you. I earned quite a few gray hairs while she learned.
I agree with you that eighteen would be a better age to start driving. But if I had the chance to ride with a driver who was blind, or the slightly less dangerous 16 year old… I would still choose the 16 year old. Or I would flip a coin
Just kidding, I would walk.
Hi!
I am from Estonia. The local news in Estonia also say that both the blind driver and the passanger were DRUNK. Official police infopage confirms it.
About driving age in estonia – at 16 yrs you could take driving school and all the exams and get a sort of “limited license” – you can drive if somebody with at least 2 years of driving experience is sitting next to you. that somebody has to be one of you parents or have a written authorization of one of your parents. and that somebody is not considered a driver and must not be sober
at 18 yrs you can get a full licens (have to wear special signs (like green canadian flag) and speed limit of 90 km/h (~55mph) for two years).
for motorcycles there are 3 steps:
at 16 yrs – up to 125ccm and up to 15hp
at 18 yrs – up to 34 hp
at 21 yrs – no limitations
Thanks for the info! The news story reported here in the US did not say that they were drunk, but that would account for the stupidity I think !
