How's that for a big baby?
A woman in Russia has given birth to a dozen babies. The baby she had on September 26th tipped the scales at 17 pounds and 1 ounce! Congrats mom!
The baby girl is healthy and both mom and baby are doing great. The baby was born via C-section (of course) without any complications. It seems the only unusual thing about this birth is the size of the baby!
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the heaviest baby ever born was in the United States in 1879 and that baby weighed 23 pounds and 12 ounces, but sadly it died 11 hours after being born. The heaviest baby who survived, according to Guinness, was born in Italy in 1955 and weighed 22 pounds and 8 ounces.
So the Russian baby is a lightweight as far as world records go, but still a whopper considering that the average weight of a newborn is a bit over 7 pounds.
