Emu Causes Road Rage In Georgia

Georgia EmuIn Georgia yesterday, drivers on I-20 had a different kind of idiot to watch out for.. it was an runaway Emu.

When the large flightless bird was spotted on the median, motorists began calling the police to report it.  Of course, cops don't know how to deal with an emu and said it isn't exactly in their job description to deal with livestock.

So animal control was called in to capture the errant emu.  Emus are the second largest bird in the world.   Only ostriches are bigger.  So there is some danger involved in emu wrangling.  Like an ostrich, they can really hurt a person when they kick.  In 1983 Johnny Cash, the original Man in Black, was on the receiving end of an ostrich kick that left him with broken ribs and other injuries.  No doubt, these big birds can be dangerous.

When animal control finally got the I-20 emu in the truck, it kicked so hard that it broke the latch on the truck.  If no one claims the animal within a few days it will be put up for adoption.

There are a couple of emu farms around where I live and they are really nasty creatures. I wouldn’t want to have to catch one.

Trukindog: How neat!! I had a very special neighbor that recently passed away and her name was also the same as mine and spelled the same way. I love Mr. Fab’s blog :)

    Billy: Those lizards are freaky!

Tammy: My parrot is the largest bird I really want to deal with.. the big birds are scary.

Bolkie: They are similar, but different. Both are pretty nasty, from what I’ve heard.

Truckindog: I haven’t seen it, but I’m sure my sister has, and if it’s really cool and a kids movie, you know we probably will need to check it out!

RT: I’ve never tasted either one, so I dunno. They do sell ostrich burgers (I think that’s what it is) at Fudruckers.. or maybe it’s Emu burgers.. I can’t remember.
