Urgent: Call to Action

I don’t usually post things like this, but this case has been really bothering me. What it comes down to is life or death for Troy Davis.

Davis is on death row in Georgia. He was convicted of killing a police officer. He was scheduled to die, but the Supreme Court issued a stay so that they could decide whether or not to grant him an appeal.

Now the Supreme Court has decided to deny the appeal, clearing the way for Davis to be executed. He will be put to death on Monday, October 27, 2008 unless there is some intervention between now and then.

Here’s some of the reasons intervention in this case is necessary and the RIGHT thing to do:

Seven of the nine key witnesses against Davis have recanted their testimony. No murder weapon or physical evidence implicating Davis was found. The case against Davis was made on the testimony of these nine witnesses. One of the witnesses still standing behind the story that Davis is guilty is thought to be the person actually responsible for the murder… so he’s got a lot to lose if he changes his story, huh?

So, on the faulty and coerced testimony of these witnesses, this man was sentenced to die. And now the state of Georgia says that it’s time.

Please take a moment to send an e-mail to the Georgia Board of Pardons and the governor of Georgia, asking them to halt the execution of this man whose guilt is highly questionable. It’s very easy to do and just takes a minute – Click here to help

Tourettes Guy – NSFW Video

The last thing I want to do is make fun of someone with a disability. However, Tourettes Guy brings it on himself. He also drinks a lot of beer, which doesn’t help his condition.

Update: After I posted this, I found out that Danny, aka Tourettes Guy, passed away last year after a car accident. RIP Danny! BALLLLLLLLLLLS!

Robbery Has Gone to the Dogs

According to news reports, Chrystopher-Lee Schaeffer, 21, and a 16-year-old friend were found asleep under a dog blanket on the roof of a news agency in Ipswitch, Massachusetts.

Police were called to the news agency when the owners reported a possible break-in at approximately 2 a.m. When the cops got there, they found the guys asleep and surrounded by various magazines, drinks, food and dog snacks. They had apparently not broken into the news agency, but had taken the items from a storage shed loaded with store supplies.

The 16-year-old was sentenced to community service. Schaeffer pleaded guilty to one count of entering the premises with the intent of committing an offense and one count of illegally being on or the a premises. Schaeffer’s lawyer said he was a good kid and he had no idea why they thought it was a good idea to take the dog food.

Schaeffer was sentenced to perform 50 hours of community service.

13 Years to the Day…

So 13 years to the day after he was acquitted of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, the jury in the robbery/kidnapping case deliberated for 13 hours and came back with a guilty verdict for OJ. Now OJ might spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Do I think he should spend the rest of his life in prison? Of course. However, if it is the current 12 crimes that he was convicted of that we’re talking about…I have to reluctantly say no.

I don’t know if OJ is incredibly stupid or just obnoxiously arrogant. Maybe it’s both. He got away with a double murder, so why wouldn’t he think that it would be fine to gather up his thugs and go manhandle these sports junk dealers? He didn’t bank on them reporting it to the police I guess.

The thing is, I guess I just don’t think what he did this time is bad enough to warrant a life sentence. It wasn’t nice and it certainly was criminal, but if the judge (who btw seems to hate OJ) is fair about it, I really don’t think that he’s going to get life or anything like it.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I’m glad he didn’t get off scott free this time, but if the punishment fits these particular crimes, I think it’s just wishful thinking that he’ll be a very old man and still be in jail.
